Concensus in Science

"Let's be clear: the work of science has nothing whatever to do with consensus. Consensus is the business of politics. Science, on the contrary, requires only one investigator who happens to be right, which means that he or she has results that are verifiable by reference to the real world. In science consensus is irrelevant. What is relevant is reproducible results. The greatest scientists in history are great precisely because they broke with the consensus. There is no such thing as consensus science. If it's consensus, it isn't science. If it's science, it isn't consensus. Period."

British Police Helicopter Chases UFO

According to the Daily Telegraph, on June 7, 2008 a police helicopter from the Ministry of Defence base of St Athan nearly collided with a 'flying saucer-shaped' aircraft. The policemen then gave chase to the mysterious craft following it across the Bristol channel, until they lost sight of it and had to turn back before they ran out of fuel.

Scientists Create Room Temperature Superconductor

A team of scientists from Canada and Germany have created a room temperature superconductor, although instead of being super-cooled, it is super-compressed. One step closer to the holy grail...

Animal-Human Embryos

The United Kingdom has approved controversial scientific research to create embryos that are part human and part animal. Researchers at King’s College London and the University of Newcastle will inject human DNA into empty eggs from cows to create embryos which are 99.9% human and .1% bovine.

An Exceptionally Simple Theory of Everything

Garret Lisi has proposed a new Unifying Theory of Everything which is much simpler than String Theory and more importantly, makes testable predictions for other undiscovered particles. It will be interesting to see what follows as the scientific community examines his paper and people work out the underlying mathematical models.

Scientists create new plastic as strong as steel

I'm always interested in material science and engineers at the University of Michigan caught my attention by making a new plastic which has the strength of steel using common materials at room temperature. Traditionally, strong plastics like Kevlar involve high temperatures. This plastic was made layer by layer by dipping.

Mystery illness after meteorite strike

"Villagers in southern Peru were struck by a mysterious illness after a meteorite made a fiery crash to Earth in their area...Seven policemen who went to check on the reports also became ill and had to be given oxygen before being hospitalized"

Orbo

Last year, I posted an article about a Free Engergy announcement by Stoern Technologies. Now Stoern has chosen a name for their new technology: "Orbo". They have also given their website a new facelift. As of January 2007, Stoern has contracted with 12 scientists from "the US and a few European countries" and begun their validation process which they hope to finish this year.

Another Free Energy Announcment

Stoern Technologies from Dublin, Ireland claims to have created a generator that produces more energy than it uses. What makes this claim somewhat interesting is that this is an existing company with other products and services and they are not asking for funding or pre-selling anything. They claim that several academic institutions "have all confirmed our claims; however none will publicly go on record."

Science Experiments

Science Experiments Colorado State University has an awesome physics page with experiments you can do with stuff you probably already have around the house.
