US more socialist than Sweden?

When the Saab Company asked the Swedish government for help due to the financial crisis, the Swedish government refused saying, "The Swedish state is not prepared to own car factories."

Are we more socialist in the US when our government jumps at the chance to own failing car companies like General Motors? Is the government smarter than the market in determining which companies should survive?

According to its last annual testing of vehicles, Consumer Reports recommended 100% of Subaru vehicles, 95% of Hondas, 89% of Toyotas, and 70% of Fords. Only 17% of GM cars and 0% of Chryslers were recommended. It sounds like the US taxpayers were forced to make one of the worst automotive investments possible.
